Job description
A Postdoc who facilitates uncertainty propagation analysis in spatial
environmental modelling by developing, testing and publishing an R
package that can address a great variety of applications. The main focus
will be on applications in integrated water quality modelling, as
studied in the QUICS project (www.quics.eu). Software flexibility and
extensibility will be achieved through state-of-the-art functional
programming with an emphasis on clean, modular and componentised design.
Efficient algorithms will be implemented to speed up Monte Carlo-based
calculations. The postdoc will work closely with several of the QUICS
PhD students, among others providing supervision and supporting the
development of sampling design optimisation techniques. The postdoc will
develop training materials and provide trainings on methods and software
for spatial uncertainty propagation analysis and sampling design
optimisation. This includes preparation of manuals and protocols for
end-users. Statistical methodology on design-based validation of water
quality models using Bayesian approaches will also be developed and
tested. The research will be reported in the international scientific
literature through first-author and co-authored journal articles.
This research is part of the EU-funded Marie Curie Initial Training
Network project 'QUICS' (Grant agreement number 607000), in which
partners from various universities, research institutes and commercial
enterprises across Europe join forces to improve water quality
management by assessing the uncertainty of integrated catchment model
water quality predictions. The project involves twelve PhD students and
four Postdocs.
