Statistician for the Arthritis Research UK Sport and Osteoarthritis Centre of Excellence (maternity cover) (117537)
Grade 7: £30,434 to £37,394 per annum
We are seeking to recruit a Statistician to provide maternity cover at the Musculoskeletal Epidemiology Unit based at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford.
Your primary duty will be to take a leading role in describing the epidemiology of sport, exercise and injury with osteoarthritis across the full spectrum of exercisers, general population to elite athletes, and responsibility for developing a clinical risk prediction tool. You will be expected to work closely alongside a senior statistician and data manager in maintaining, managing and collating the data sources required for this project, to contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals and teaching programmes in NDORMS and to give presentations to multidisciplinary groups.
As ARUK Statistician you must have a relevant MSc in statistics or epidemiology (minimum 2:1), together with considerable experience in biostatistics. Extensive knowledge of medical statistics and expertise in handling large patient level datasets is essential, as is expertise in statistical analysis packages, e.g. SAS, R, SPSS, Stata software and a good publication record. An ability to communicate results effectively in writing and verbally with colleagues in any discipline and develop novel approaches to analysis is also necessary. Knowledge of other software (e.g. MLwiN and S-Plus) and extensive knowledge of epidemiological study design would be desirable, as would a higher education teaching qualification, experience of teaching medical statistics/ epidemiology and expertise in project management.
This is a full time maternity cover appointment for 6 months to start as soon as possible.
