Dear colleagues,
I thought this might conceivably interest some of you, in particular those
who are looking at the rich interface between transport and land-use
planning on the one hand, and health and healthcare systems on the other.
I was invited to the European Forum Alpbach several years back to give a
presentation on mobility, equity and efficiency and was extremely impressed
by their efficiency and the quality of the presentations and participants.
Let me put it this way: Alpbach is not a minor league event.
I have a certain amount of self-interest in sharing this invitation with you
because I personally am interested in learning more from my colleagues about
how transportation got right can have positive impacts both in terms of
personal health and in terms of the overall healthcare system. We all know
about the correlation of unhealthy transport with obesity, respiratory
infections, psychological impacts and the sad results of road carnage, but
since this is a moving target I think we all profit when we are able to
share the latest reflections and conclusions of our colleagues who are
giving their time and energies to these important issues.
So whether or not you make it to the beautiful setting in the Austrian Alps,
if you are thinking and working along these lines, I for one would be most
pleased to hear from you. And I might add that make it a practice to
publish thoughtful pieces regularly to World Streets at
http://worldstreets.wordpress.com.
Incidentally, students are welcome at Alpbach and those qualified can
benefit from generous scholarships. You will see the whole program at
http://www.alpbach.org.
With all good wishes,
Eric

Dear Prof Britton,
The cardiologist who opened a practice in Greece for people without health
insurance. The social entrepreneur who organises health courses for
immigrants in Germany. The nine-year-old who blogs about school lunches and
ensures that England's schools serve up more vegetables. More and more
people from all over Europe are taking the reins and trying to improve the
healthcare system in differing ways. Whether it be with a project, a
business, in academia or an initiative - we want to offer these pioneers a
platform at the Alpbach Healthcare Symposium 2015 so that we can all learn
from their valuable experiences.
Which innovations do you know in the field of healthcare? Which projects and
persons impressed you? Or are you involved in a pioneer project yourself?
Make us aware of engaged campaigners and write a short e-mail with a
description and contacts of the project. An expert committee will look
through all suggestions and will invite 30 pioneers to Alpbach.
You can find further information to the healthcare pioneers at the European
Forum Alpbach 2015 at http://www.alpbach.org/healthcarepioneers
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Philippe Narval
