Dear colleagues on the Sport Study Group List,



With apologies for cross posting.



Our Partner Sport and Citizenship has dedicated the new issue of its Review to the conclusions of the FREE project (Football Research in an Enlarged Europe).  Introduced by Sport & Citizenship and by FREE coordinator Albrecht Sonntag the Review includes:



— The 1st interview given on sport by Tibor Navracsics, the new EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport; 

— An interview with newly elected MEP Theodoros Zagorakis, captain of the Greek team that made football history when they won the Euro 2004;

 — Jacques Lambert on « What Legacy will UEFA Euro 2016 leave? »; 

— UEFA’s Emily Shaw on « Promoting women’s leadership in football »; 

— Former EU Commissioner Olli Rehn on « As a kid, I got to know Europe through its football teams ».



All the members of the FREE consortium on their research work for the project : 



— Paul Dietschy on « How Football Became European »; 

— Wolfram Pyta & Nils Havemann on « The slow, but irresistible emergence of a European Football Memory »; 

— Albrecht Sonntag on « The Heysel as a European traumatism »; 

— Alexandra Schwell & Michał Buchowski on « Anthropological football research and East-West imaginaries »; 

— Nina Szogs on « Fandom and Migration »; 

— Malgorzata Kowalska on « The mega-event paradox »; 

— Gertrud Pfister on « Can we speak of the feminisation of football? »; 

— Svenja-Maria Mintert on « The feminisation of football is still some way off! »; 

— Borja García-García & Jo Welford on « How much do supporters care about football governance? »; 

— Özgehan Şenyuva & Ramón Llopis-Goig on « Football and the European public sphere »; 

— Dàvid Ranc & Başak Alpan on « The football stadium as political space ».



These results will be presented during our one day event at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels on 17 March « We’re in the Final » for which a provisional programme is available upon request.
