It should also be part of the Data Management Plan for the project.

Dear Mary,
I think that the roles & responsibilities concerning any data generated as a result of a project should be covered in the collaboration agreement at the start of the project, in a similar way to issues such as IP would be. Clarity is always a good thing!

Subject: Data from collaborations
Hello All,
Another EPSRC-related query, though in the long run, this could apply to data associated with all funders.
How do you go about handling data that is generated as part of a collaboration? Expectation VII clarifies that Research Organisations are not expected to assume responsibility for the preservation and management of 3rd party data not generated in their own organisation. So when a PI at HEI A holds a grant award on which a researcher from HEI B collaborates (and recieves some of the funding), A is not responsible for B's data. Does this mean that the researcher at HEI B also needs to make sure that data from the collaboration is publicly available?
Any thoughts gratefully received
(and many thanks to those of you who replied to my previous post about meta-data recording).
Mary
