Aalto University is a new university with over a century of experience. Created from a high-profile merger between three existing leading universities in Finland - the Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and the University of Art and Design Helsinki - Aalto University opens up new possibilities for strong multidisciplinary education and research. The university has 20 000 students and a staff of 5 000 including 370 professors.
Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture is one of the most prestigious international universities of art, design and architecture in the world. The school is a strong source of social influence. Key areas of its research are design, digital media, audiovisual representation, art, visual culture, well-being architecture and emerging technologies, and urban planning and design. The school's history dates back to 1871.
Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Department of Design invites applications for
Designer in Residence in Fashion Design

The Department of Design is seeking a Designer in Residence whose task is to teach and develop teaching, research and artistic activities in the field of fashion design at the Department. The Designer in Residence´s duties include especially teaching in Fashion and Collection Design Master´s Degree Programme, tutoring MA-students and participating in the development of design education in collaboration with the professors of the Department. Collaborating with other units within Aalto University and with external stakeholders as well as obtaining external funding and projects are an essential part of the Designer in Residence´s duties.
Qualified candidates for the Designer in Residence position hold a master´s degree in fashion design (or other field relevant to the position) with a strong professional background in collection design and teaching together with a wide international network. Experience of securing funding, establishing cooperative relationships and business collaboration is regarded an advantage.
The position is fixed-term and will be filled for 12 months, with a start date of 1 March 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system of Finnish universities.

The evaluation is based on the total assessment of a candidate in each main dimension: artistic/professional work, teaching, activity in fashion design, design and professional communities. The main weight is put on artistic/professional work. Short listed candidates will be invited for an interview.
Aalto University reserves the right to leave the position open, to extend the application period and to consider candidates who have not submitted applications during the application period.
