Special Issue on “Variable Neighborhood Search methods in business and engineering”
[Apologies for cross-posting]
Extended Deadline: Due to numerous requests to extend the paper submission deadline, the guest editors are pleased to announce that we will continue to accept paper submissions until March 28th (hard deadline).
Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) is a metaheuristic for solving combinatorial and global optimization problems. It is based on a systematic change of the neighborhood structures within a search. The main goal of this special issue is to present recent advances in theoretical, methodological, or applied aspects of Variable Neighborhood Search in business and engineering. Researches coming from various scientific fields can contribute their knowledge, expertise, and ideas related to the VNS metaheuristic and its applications.
We invite investigators to contribute with original research or review articles to stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the variable neighborhood search. We are particularly interested in articles describing new neighborhood structures or new combination of neighborhoods used for solving some particular combinatorial or global optimization problem. We are also interested in problems where VNS approach is used for the first time, but providing results at least as good as state-of-the-art heuristics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
Applications
• Supply Chain Engineering
• Location & Routing Problems
• Inventory Optimization
• Social Networks
• Packing Problems
• Flow Shop Scheduling Problems
• Financial Optimization Problems
• Graph Problems
• Continuous optimization
Methodologies
• Reduced Variable Neighborhood Search
• Basic Variable Neighborhood Search
• Variable Neighborhood Descent
• General Variable Neighborhood Search
• Parallel Variable Neighborhood Search
• Multi-Objetive VNS
• Variable Neighborhood Branching
• Primal-dual Variable Neighborhood Search
• Variable Formulation Search
Authors can submit their papers any time after December 20th, 2014 and up until the 28th March 2015. Online submission can be found here. When asked to choose article type, please stipulate ‘SI: VNS methods - bus&eng.’ In the ‘Enter Comments’ box, the title of the Special Issue, along with any further acknowledgements, should be inserted. All submissions should meet Computers & Operations Research author guidelines.
