Don't forget that PubMed Central gives images - displayes on the right-hand side of your search results when doing a basic search. Please note these images may be subject to copyright restrictions, so check the NCBI and PubMed Central copyright notices.

Try Wikimedia Commons too. There's a lot of stuff available under Creative Commons licensing.

For a good ten years, the BMJ Publishing Group and several other major medical journals have allowed people to save as PowerPoint slides images to which they own the rights. These can be used for in-house, non-commercial educational use

ProQuest (soon to be Core Content) has plenty of images, but check the licensing.

It's probably not quite what you're looking for, but there is an NHS Photo Library for finding images for leaflets etc: http://www.photolibrary.nhs.uk/ users need to sign up, but it’s a painless process!

The tags on the photos aren't great and it's only a simple search but there are still some useful images to be had.

Hello all,

We have been asked to source a medical images database for teaching staff to use - to take the pain out of checking copyright etc.

We used to lease Springer Images but this is no longer supported. I realise that the way we source images has changed and maybe these databases are no longer financially viable?

However, if you can recommend any we are very interested!

Best wishes,

Caroline

We also noticed immediately that the numbering started at issue 3 and were puzzled by that, as there is no actual space in the calendar to have had a 1 or 2. We thought that it was just a typo and that it would be rectified, but the enumeration has continued.

Subject: Project post opportunity at the Royal College of Surgeons of England

Dear all,

Spring! (That's a statement, not an order. If you're now reading this while springing, there's no need. Unless you're enjoying it, in which case, be my guest. I won't judge.) (And I realise that technically it's not spring for ages yet, but it's spring-like outside today, and that's sufficient for these purposes...) Traditionally a time of new beginnings, new ways of thinking, new experiences, new places, new people, all sorts of new stuff in general, new, new, new, new, new, new, new, new, new, you can see where I'm going with this, can't you, I'm not going to labour the point any further...

Collections Review Assistant (0.8 FTE)

£21,000 pa pro-rata; fixed term to end of December 2015

The Royal College of Surgeons of England has been awarded funding from Arts Council England's Designation Development Fund to undertake a comprehensive survey of all its Designated Collections across the library, museums and archives. This involves conducting physical care, preservation, usage and documentation appraisals alongside a number of significance assessments, and recording and analysing data and findings. Our aim is to develop our understanding of these collections to move their management and usage forward. We are looking to appoint a new member to our team of three Collections Review Assistants, who also work with the project manager, collections managers and external experts. Although this role focuses on the library's collections, the post-holder will also assist with reviewing archives and museums collections.

This opportunity would suit an enthusiastic professional with curiosity and imagination, analytical skills coupled with the ability to work methodically and accurately, and someone who would relish the experience of working closely with colleagues from allied domains. The successful candidate will have a first degree as well as an appropriate library/information/archives qualification. You will have experience in your sector, a positive attitude to working with collections on a cross-domain basis, and a practical, hands-on approach. You will be a good team player and have experience of working on projects to meet milestones. An interest in medical history or experience of working in a health related area would be an advantage. You will have the communication skills and confidence to engage with colleagues, stakeholders and users to ensure the success of the project.

For a full job description/person specification and details of how to apply, please visit http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/about/working/index.html/view?vacancy_id=1223

Closing date: Sunday 22nd February 2015; expected interview date: Monday 2nd March 2015

We'll be advertising this on jobs.ac.uk as well in the next couple of days. If you have any questions about the role and the project, please feel free to get in touch with me this week (week ending Friday 13th), or Mrs Thalia Knight ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) next week (week beginning Mon 16th), and please share it with anyone you think may be interested.

You might want to stop springing now, though.

Tom.

*APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING*

Hello

I’ve been asked if I can find examples of other NHS organisations that have a learning repository.

The idea is that we try to capture learning from all kinds of situations – innovative use of equipment, outcomes from projects and how things went (well or not so well), publications and research by Trust staff…The list could go on. I’ve had a couple of examples, but wanted to spread the net further to see what I could find.

I’m grateful for anything you might have to share.

Thanks
