Hi Mick

Like Nicolette, we require an ID check to be performed for each candidate during the exam itself. Apart from anything else, it does give the invigilators something specific to do to fill the hours!

Best wishes

Hi Mick
Not at Winchester.
But it really depends on what you want to check: numbers or named individuals.

If you want match names on cards to names on a list, then a swipe card will tell you whose cards have been presented and do it quickly.
But the chip won’t necessarily tell you if you have the right candidate attending.

You really need photographic ID on a card that is very difficult to forge and a way to check the face against card and then check the name against the list. That way, you can verify you have the genuine candidate sitting the exam. But it won’t be quick unless you can find technology that scans faces as well as cards and then it won’t be cheap.

Hence the fact that we continue to ask our invigilators, who have hours to fill, to complete the checks quietly during the exam.

But I would be interested to hear if others have found a way to use technology to check lists and identify fraudsters cheaply and efficiently.
Cheers.

Subject: Exams - Electronic attendance monitoring

Hi all,

Does anyone use (or have investigated the use of) electronic devices utilising barcoded or NFC chipped ID cards to assist with monitoring attendance/ checking identity at exams?

If so I would love to hear of your experiences and whether anyone has implemented successfully such a system.

Many thanks
