Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
School of Public Health
Research Associate/Biostatistician in Molecular Epidemiology
Salary Range: £33,410 - £42,380 per annum
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate/Biostatistician in Molecular Epidemiology to contribute to and help lead on the analysis of large-scale molecular epidemiological data.
The Department houses a number of world-leading resources for conduct of cutting-edge research in Molecular Epidemiology. These include: the Airwave Health Monitoring Study of the UK police forces with stored data and samples from over 30,000 people. Airwave has stored samples for genomic, metabolomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic analyses; COMBI-BIO, with its rich dataset on the serum metabolome from untargeted analysis of 8,000 samples from the three cohorts using both Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Ultra Performace Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS); NIHR Imperial Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Biobanking Technology Theme; the UK Med-Bio Programme in bioinformatics.
You will focus on statistical analyses of large-scale epidemiological data, in particular the Airwave Study, assessing environmental factors, genomic, metabolomics and other omics biomarkers for association with cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors and disease. The successful applicant will have a Phd in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related quantitiative discipline or equivalent. A sound understanding of epidemiological concepts particularly in relation to molecular epidemiology and strong quantitative skills, including experience in analysing large-scale and high dimensional data (e.g. genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics) using relevant software are essential.
The post will also involve the usual administrative duties associated with a busy academic and research-active environment. You may also be required to undertake other duties as required by the Head of Department and the Head of School.
This post is full time for a fixed term of 1 year, in the first instance and will be based at the St Mary’s campus, Paddington.
