Laura Gallagher
Research Media Relations Manager
Imperial College London
---------------
Research Media Officer (Natural Sciences) – fixed term contract (Feb – May 2015)
Salary: £34,270 – 42,540 per annum.
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic science writer / press officer to join our award-winning Research Communications Group to report on and publicise work by natural scientists at Imperial College London, one of the world’s best universities.
This is a fixed-term position to cover a secondment, and represents a great opportunity for someone to work with our world-leading scientists to raise awareness about their research and ensure it reaches the people who need it or who are interested in it.
Our chemists, physicists, mathematicians and life scientists are tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges, such as climate change and global security. News about their research regularly makes national and international headlines, from the search for the Higgs boson to the latest developments in synthetic biology.
With a curiosity about science, excellent written and verbal skills, and a good understanding of how to report on research responsibly and accurately, you will know how to turn complex research findings into news, press releases and features that appeal to a wide range of people.
You will be experienced in creating exciting online packages about research, including video and audio features, with the support of our digital media group. You will also be adept at using existing and emerging social media tools to help tell our researchers’ stories. The content you produce will feature on Imperial’s online news website at www.imperial.ac.uk/news, which attracts over 120,000 visitors each month and will contribute to other communications outputs, publications and events about the College’s research.
Imperial receives a high level of interest from the media and other external audiences. You will be comfortable at handling relationships with these audiences, and enjoy the challenge of producing a large number of news and online packages every month. Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise are vital.
This fixed term contract starts with immediate effect and runs until 23 May 2015. The role is based in our office on Imperial’s South Kensington campus.
If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your CV along with a supporting statement and examples of your recent work to Laura Gallagher, Research Media Relations Manager, on [log in to unmask] by close of play on Wednesday 4 February 2015.
