We use one of these: http://www.anton-paar.com/us-en/products/details/portable-density-meter-dma-35/
Definitely fancy, NOT cheap but well worth the expenditure and VERY handy. We bought ours some time ago and I think we paid $2500 for it at the time.

Subject: Alcohol meter for spirit collection
NatSCA members,
Can anyone recommend a good alcohol meter for monitoring our spirit collection? Nothing too fancy, but definitely something that will last.
Thanks,
