1 Research associate (Post-doctoral) position in Sociology (m/f)

Fixed term contract 2 years, full-time/40 hrs
Contract starting March 1st, 2015
The post doc researcher will be a member of the Institute for Research on Socio-Economic Inequality (IRSEI) within the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education at the University of Luxembourg.
IRSEI, a PEARL chair funded by the Fonds National de la Recherche Luxembourg (FNR), develops comparative stratification research projects in the sociology of inequalities. Its research program analyses inequality changes in the context of welfare regimes, labor markets and households’ transformations. The intensification of economic inequalities of income and wealth, the development of new social cleavages and the accumulation of concrete social tensions, are leading factors of the transformation of social categories in the Western World. IRSEI develops new descriptive knowledge of these inequalities and their dynamics, cross-sectional and longitudinal methodological tools, focuses on the interactions between social structures and institutional transformations, new dimensions of inequalities, institutional answers and crises of welfare regimes. This programme is developed in the Integrative Research Unit on Social and Individual Development (INSIDE) of the University and in close cooperation with the Luxembourg research actors, including the LIS (Luxembourg Income Study).
Your tasks
The successful candidate will be member of the IRSEI team. In collaboration with the principal investigator (Prof. Louis Chauvel), he/she will:
Develop research in the sociology of comparative inequality and stratification;
Cooperate in preparing research proposals;
Publish in international peer-review journals of high visibility;
Disseminate results through scientific publications, workshops and conferences;
Interact with the Pearl project members and participate in the project’s dynamics;
Your profile
Doctoral Degree in the social sciences;
Publications in academic journals;
Large experience in quantitative research (f.ex.Stata, R, etc.);
Experience in handling longitudinal and cohort datasets;
Extensive knowledge of public policies, welfare regimes research;
Interest and experience of comparative social sciences;
Good communication skills that enable him/her to support the supervision of students;
Excellent level in English. French and/or German would be useful assets.
