I've used The Grinder before which is uses Jython (I'd go to grinder.sourceforge.net rather than googling grinder), and being free it's not something people seem to want to argue against.
It takes time to learn, but you can write your own tests easily, and if used correctly can quite accurately load test
It can be scripted to enter account credentials so can be used with a Blackboard login, which gets round the integration issues as you can make it behave as a user would in a series of scripted or even random occurrences
It requires Java, and coding in Python but nothing really complicated, it's harder to plan the tests than to do the coding!

Subject: Load Testing Software / Framework
Hi Folks... Its a good 4 years since I asked this question. Sorry to be repetitive :-(
We are searching for a way to effectively load and capacity test our future self hosted BB UAT installations before releasing to production.
Does anybody have any experience of doing this at their institution, or can put us in touch with anybody who has.
Questions I have are:
What software did you use?
What are the H/W requirements for hosting the S/W?
Did you require any consultancy / training?
How effective was the testing? Did it cope with such things as:
Integrations (Campus Pack Turnitin etc)
Java applets
Content upload and delete
Administrator functionality
How accurate do you think the results were?
Many thanks in advance.
