Dear colleagues,
Some of you might be interested in the website for the Creative Communities, 1750-1830 Research Network, which ran from 2012 to 2014: https://creativecommunities17501830.wordpress.com/ This AHRC-funded network was based in the School of English at the University of Leeds, in partnership with the University of Southampton and University College London. I was the Principal Investigator and my Leeds colleague Professor John Whale was the Co-Investigator. The network aimed to further our understanding of how connections between members of a community, and between different communities, can enhance creativity. At the same time, it subjected those key terms to rigorous investigation. We held workshops on ‘Dissenters and Evangelicals’ (Leeds), ‘Metropolitan Institutions’ (UCL), and ‘Regional and National Networks’ (Chawton House, Hampshire). Further details of the events (including programmes and reports) can be found on the website. In particular, we have uploaded podcasts of many of the papers and discussions. Participants included Professor Stephen Bygrave, Professor Emma Clery, Dr Gregory Dart, Professor Elizabeth Fay, Professor John Goodridge, Dr Felicity James, Professor Scott Krawczyk, Professor Jon Mee, Professor Robert Morrison, Dr Simon White, and Professor David Worrall. One of our main aims in organising the network was to make its findings as widely available as possible, so please do make use of this resource.
