Hello Judith and Solihin
It's good to know that I'm not the only one grappling with the nitty-gritty hands-on.

Another step-by-step document is

It also contains links to examples of workflows in various institutions.
The University of Hull was involved in the AIMS project (http://www2.lib.virginia.edu/aims) and may be able to provide you with some practical guidelines.
Kind regards

Subject: Digital Preservation for Dummies?!
Dear List Members,
After taking in a large digital accession, we’re in the early stages of planning a digital preservation strategy. We’ve done a lot of reading on the subject and attended several events, but we’re still feeling a little unclear on the basic steps. While this may be that we’re just not very bright(!), we’ve been able to find many detailed (and useful) high level planning documents that have been shared online, but we haven’t been able to track down anything in the way of straightforward and practical guidelines on how people actually do it on a day to day basis. By this I mean a simple step by step guide to creating the metadata, SIP and AIP etc. If anyone has created or knows of any resources like these that they wouldn’t mind sharing, we’d be very grateful if they could let us know.
Thanks very much.
Best wishes,
Judith
