The Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield is one of the top 25 worldwide (QS World University Rankings 2014) with research and teaching at the cutting edge of contemporary geography. As one of the largest geography departments in the UK, we have a vibrant community of undergraduates, postgraduates and post-doctoral researchers.
The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), as part of its Care for the Future Research Programme is funding the interdisciplinary research project Intergenerational Justice, Consumption and Sustainability in Comparative Perspective (INTERSECTION). This project aims to use innovative, multi-method, cross-national research to explore inequitable consumption practices between different generations across time and space. The research is located in three contrasting national contexts: China, Uganda, and the UK.
This advertisement is for a PDRA role, based at the University of Sheffield and you will spend around 9 months in the field in China. You will have A PhD or equivalent postdoctoral research experience in a relevant academic field such as Geography, Sociology, Anthropology or Politics. Experience of undertaking collaborative work and conducting in-depth qualitative interviews and/or focus groups is essential. A publishing track record and evidence of writing and giving presentations at conferences (both national and international) is essential for this post.
It is also essential that you are able to spend 9 months in China to carry out the research and are fluent in Mandarin.
University Grade 7: (£29,552 - £37,394 per annum).
