The MSc in Medical Statistics at Leicester, UK offers full-time and part-time study options and is a well-established and successful course based in the Biostatistics and Genetic Epidemiology research groups in the Medical School of the University of Leicester.
To reflect the demand for graduates and the high quality of teaching, the course has been awarded 4 MRC and 4 NIHR studentships (to cover fees and provide a stipend) for the course starting September 2015. Good UK/EU applicants will be considered for these studentships and other funding opportunities.
The orientation of the course is applied and vocational; it aims to produce graduates who can immediately work as medical statisticians in research organisations, clinical trials units, the pharmaceutical industry, universities and the NHS or go on to PhDs. Demand for well qualified statisticians in these settings is still strong. There are opportunities on the course to specialise in Genetic Epidemiology or Health Technology Assessment.
Part-time study involves attendance at seven week-long blocks per year over two academic years followed by a six month project.
We are looking for students with a good honours degree of which mathematics/statistics is the main subject though applicants with other backgrounds will be considered.
