Hi folks,
This may be an old chestnut, but I can't see any relevant recent posts...
I'm part of an informal research group looking at developing some collections research and exhibition ideas over the next couple of years. The group involves people within my University, plus a range of individuals in other institutions across the world.
We're looking at ways of sharing documents (eg transcriptions of manuscripts, pdfs, notes, reports of meetings/discussions, images) quickly and easily. Some kind of narrative notes framework which can provide some context for such resources, or provide a slot for thoughts/suggestions/events etc might also be useful. Group members have very mixed IT skills, so we're looking at very limited, easy-to-use functionality via browser, probably with a single security level, or maybe two (admin + everybody else) for such things as:
Upload file
Upload a file with note about what it it and why
Browse/look at files which have been uploaded
Replace/delete a file
Create a new note
Respond to existing notes
Search stuff
Optionally email userlist that an update has occurred (not clear if this is desirable)
At this stage we don't want public web access. All read and write access would involve some kind of authentication by group members. Raw Dropbox or Googledrive is probably too limited. Maybe something like Yammer?
Has anybody any recommendations, or particularly good or bad experiences of such tools?
Cheers
John
