You have just nailed it, Alan. We do have a tendency of pointing accusing fingers at 'others'. Rather than acknowledging bad toilet usage is found among uncaring and thoughtless individuals irrespective of culture or nation, we tend to stick our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostriches blaming 'international' students. Most international students come from well-developed backgrounds with good toilet facilities, believe it or not. People who have travelled wide will agree. You need to carry out proper surveys and you will find out toilets are blocked by students, international or not, who should go back home for proper toilet trainings... do you know most local students do not even bother washing hands after toilet use, this is not international. Let's face the facts.

I don't think so. Last week here at UEA Main Library we had 50% of the toilets on one staircase blocked, and having one or more blocked is common, and getting more common all the time. While some of these blockages may simply be due to users who should not be allowed out of the house unaccompanied by their parents, the suggestion that some problems are due to cultural differences seems a reasonable one and, cringeworthy though it may seem, the solution seems worth pursuing.
