Dear Rebecca,
There are some solutions for your problem, and let me introduce what I do.
Attached are tiny scripts for running SPM8 and SPM12.
1. Remove SPM paths from your MATLAB path.
2. Place the scripts (spm8.m and spm12.m) in C:\Users\Your_Name\Documents\MATLAB
3. Please edit spm8.m and spm12.m. On line 4, you need to describe
where your spm is. (It assumes c:\spm\spm8 or c:\spm\spm12 by default)
You can also specify where your spm toolbox is located. (e.g. WFU
PickAtlas in spm8.m)
Then it's done.
If you want to run SPM8, just type "spm8" from your Matlab command
window and spm8 will show up.
Type "spm12" will remove spm8-related path, then spm12 will show up.
Hope this helps,
Kiyotaka

Is there a preferred way of organising the subfolders in MATLAB to make this work? Is there a way to navigate to the correct folder in matlab and then launch spm from there? We have centrally adminstered pcs which adds some difficulty with changing the path.
