Re: > [tellus about this soup, Millicent…]
I organize a reading series called Kale Soup for the Soul (featuring Portuguese-American writers reading work about family, food and culture)
Kale soup is a staple comfort food for Portuguese and Portuguese-Americans, so we use that as a title for our poetry readings. In the past three years we have given poetry workshops and readings in 30 major cities in the US: Chicago, Albuquerque, Seattle, Boston, Newark, San Francisco, and more.
We were invited to a residency in Knoxville, Tenn (next June) and to give readings there, so we are trying to raise funds through Go Fund Me (dot) com /KaleSoup
We also have a recipe book coming out early in 2015 which will feature poetry AND recipes of foods like Kale Soup.
Thanks for asking and happy holidays everyone!

Bill, thanks - it made me look up rictus.
Risus sardonicus or rictus grin is a highly characteristic, abnormal, sustained
spasm of the facial muscles that appears to produce grinning.
The name of the condition, which has its roots in the Mediterranean island of
Sardinia, derives from the appearance of raised eyebrows and an open "grin" -
which can appear sardonic or malevolent to the lay observer - displayed by those
suffering from these muscle spasms.
It is most often observed as a sign of tetanus..
It can also be caused by poisoning with strychnine.
[Yesterday I had my winter flu shot at the pharmacy and while I was there had
one for the trifecta: whooping cough, tetanus and um something else.]
