Hi
I have been a member of the Museums Computer Group for a few months now and have been reading with interest the various emails on museum matters. I met with John Coburn (Digital Projects Co-ordinator) at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums in Newcastle. He advised me/ suggested that I join the Museums Computer Group as from time to time museum vacancies are found there and I may get some useful advice.
Of my working background - I currently do virtual volunteer work for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums (Assisting with tagging of online collection photographs). I also currently do virtual volunteer work for the British Museum (Transcription of European Bronze Age index cards and Photo-masking of artefacts). Prior I did nearly 2 years volunteer work at a maritime museum and about 9 months volunteer work at a maritime lighthouse museum ( I got accreditation as a Tour guide/ experience doing Tour guide work, I have had experience in conservation and displays, research and website construction, reception work/ manning the museum, acquired product knowledge and on background history, cataloguing, publicity articles and general cleaning experience). I am a ongoing member of the UK Museums Association and English Heritage. I have a Bachelor degree in Arts (Art) and Certificate II in Museum Practice and I participated in a Preventive Conservation Workshop. I am also a practising Painter/ Multi-medium artist with my own website.
Basically for nearly 2 years I have been trying to get an entry-level position/ Traineeship in a museum/ art gallery and currently I am working on a new application due by 12/01/2015 for a Museums Collections Management (Curatorial Support) Trainee position through Stockport Council. I thought I would make myself known and as I am aware that you all generally come from various museum backgrounds - I thought if anyone had any constructive advice to offer me? It would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time.RegardsMichael

Subject: Museum Data gathering
Hello
I'm looking for suggestions of suppliers we could approach to help with a project.
We are intending to conduct face to face interviews with all the museums we work with in the Yorkshire and Humber region, just over 100 museums.
We are looking for a simple way to capture the information we get so that it can easily analysed and can generate a report for the museum. We would want to be able to edit those reports before they went out. It would also be helpful if we and the museum could pre-populate parts of the data to speed the process.on the day.
Any suggestions of an existing solution or good supplier would be much appreciated.
