Dear All,
A draft of the report prepared by the EHRC on behalf of the UK's Independent Mechanism for monitoring implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is now available on the EHRC website:
http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/publication/monitoring-implementation-un-convention-rights-persons-disabilities
The report may provide a useful resource - eg to DPOs working on putting together their own shadow reports. Also, there is a space on the website for comments and suggestions that could be fed into this report - input from researchers as well as DPOs would also be very helpful. In the words of the foreword' to the report:
"The UN Disability Committee is expected to examine the UK’s compliance with the Convention in 2016. Many organisations and individuals have already started to produce their own analysis of how well the Convention rights are being put into practice. We hope our report will be a useful resource to them, and encourage others to get involved.
We need a fair, transparent and evidence-based assessment of how the governments of the UK comply with the UK’s obligations under this Convention. Please read our report and tell us what you think. Now is the time for disabled people and their organisations to influence the process and ensure our voices are heard. So please join in."
With very best wishes
Anna
