A major client of mine receives numerous requests for CCTV, in regard to incidents in stores and car parks. They treat as SARs - I believe rightly. Some are s7s, others s35s, occasionally s29s - police requests are dealt with promptly, recent ones have included an allegation of sexual molestation of a minor, several assaults, and one murder (there were no images in this instance). Unfortunately, most agencies making s29s simply quote that section, and have to be chased for the criminal law under which the request is being made (Police Act 1996 is accepted), and requests are seldom complete.
Interestingly, those involving motor vehicles - where a copy of the V5 document is required as proof that the DS is the RK - seldom benefit the requestor. Perhaps not surprisingly, many requestors cannot understand why a description of the clothes they were wearing is required to assist in IDing them on CCTV.
In terms of assistance in locating the data, many cannot remember times, some can't remember dates, others can't recall where they were ... this makes it a tad challenging to locate their data.
One request was dealt with by a store without involving the Data Protection team. This resulted in some 1,500 hours of video being burned to 300 CDs. I argued (successfully) against its supply.
CCTV is supplied with a clear statement that the Copyright belongs to my client, and cautions against its publication in any form and on any medium.
