Dear CHATers,
You are cordially invited to a seminar series on "Future Pasts | Present Futures: Critical Conversations on the ‘Contemporary’ across disciplines" taking place at UCL Institute of Archaeology in the Spring Term.
This seminar series will critically explore the idea of the ‘contemporary’ and its relational notions of the past, present and future, through case studies drawn from archaeology, architecture, art, geography and heritage. In doing so, will seek to generate new debates and trans-disciplinary conversations between and across these fields.
The first seminar takes place on 12 January. Dr Peter Oakley (Research Leader for School of Material, Royal College of Art) will be speaking on "Origin Myths and Realities: unpacking the historic narratives of mining heritage sites."
To be followed by a book launch for 'Reanimating Industrial Spaces: Conducting Memory Work in Post-Industrial Societies', edited by Hilary Orange (UCL) http://www.lcoastpress.com/book.php?id=530
The seminars take place on Mondays from 4-6pm, in Room 612 of the Institute, followed by a wine reception.
Further information on the seminars can be found via the following link and I've copied the programme below
