Research Assistant / Associate in Statistical Genetics
Maximum starting salary - Assistant £25,513, Associate £30,434 (with progression to £37,394)
We are seeking to appoint a research associate in statistical genetics to work on an exciting project related to the genetics of the liver disease primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC). The post-holder will be based in the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, within the Computational and Statistical Genetics Group led by Professor Heather Cordell.
The successful applicant will develop and apply statistical analysis techniques to data from a study of treatment response run by the UK-PBC consortium. This will include analysis of genome-wide association study (GWAS) data and biological data derived from other high-throughput "omics" technologies.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in statistics/statistical genetics/genetic epidemiology or another relevant statistical/mathematical subject, together with knowledge and experience of working with genetic and/or genomic data. Exceptionally, candidates with a biological/medical/bioinformatics background but with proven competence and a strong interest in statistical analysis techniques may be considered.
The post is tenable until 30/11/2017
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Heather Cordell in the Institute of Genetic Medicine ([log in to unmask])
