The Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit (CEU) within the DPHPC (one of Europe's leading academic departments of population health sciences) is an internationally recognised interdisciplinary group currently comprising >50 staff and students.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented epidemiologist/statistician to contribute to a new programme of research to investigate the long-term outcomes of women with gestational hypertension, with particular focus on maternal cardiovascular disease. This will constitute applied statistical research to data from large national datasets (Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), Office of National Statistics (ONS) and Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project (MINAP)).
Based at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge, the post-holder will work directly with Dr Angela Wood in collaboration with Professor Ian Wilkinson (Clinical Pharmacology Unit, Cambridge), Dr Rupert Payne (Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research) and Professor Gordon Smith (Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Cambridge).
We invite applications from candidates with (i) either a PhD in statistics/epidemiology (or related field), or an MSc in statistics (or related field) and relevant work experience; (ii) experience in statistical packages such as STATA or R; (iii) good interpersonal skills to develop working relationships inside and outside the multi-disciplinary group; (iv) a strong interest in women’s health. Experience in handling large datasets is desirable. The post-holder should also be able to work independently, accurately judge priorities, and have excellent organisational and communication skills.
