Dear colleagues:
The Department of Transport and Planning (T&P) is part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft. It focuses on the planning, design, operation and management of transport systems, addressing road transport, public transport and passenger and freight transport systems. T&P consists of 70-80 staff members, of whom 20 are permanent employees. The department is responsible for the T&P track in the Master of Civil Engineering programme and coordinates the interfaculty Master programme in Transport, Infrastructure and Logistics. The department is the only civil engineering research group in the Netherlands that was awarded the maximum score at all research assessments during the last 15 years.
The Department of Transport and Planning is opening a position for an Assistant/Assoicate Professor Intelligent Complexity of Smart and Sustainable Transport Systems.
New concepts for a more sustainable transport system (demand management, shared mobility, automated driving, etc.) will affect travel behaviour, the performance of the transport system and its impacts on society. For the analysis and design of smart and sustainable transport systems, a comprehensive and quantitative approach is required which considers every possible impact. Given the complexity of all systems involved, mathematical modelling approaches are essential.
Candidates are expected to develop a comprehensive modelling approach for the analysis and design of smart and sustainable transport concepts, both for initial development and for formal planning. They will contribute to research projects in this field and supervise MSc and PhD students. They will also help develop MSc courses related to comprehensive analysis of smart and sustainable transport systems. Close cooperation with other members of the department's scientific staff and wider university, and developing relationships with practitioners are essential.
The officical announcement and conditions can be found at: http://www.tudelft.nl/en/about-tu-delft/working-at-tu-delft/. Applications need to be submitted before 5th January 2015.
Kind regards
Prof Dr Bart van Arem
Professor of Transport Modelling
