Job Opening: Data Curation Service Manager at CERN
Reference: http://jobs.web.cern.ch/job/11269
CERN is seeking a Data Curation Service Manager to take responsibility for the design, development, deployment and operation of curation services for data (and other relevant scientific artefacts such as software or figures) across multiple platforms, in synergy with the scientific community and in partnership with relevant CERN services and emerging global initiatives. Some activities are now launching, such as a Open Data portal for the LHC results and the integration of data within our flagship subject-specific digital library: INSPIREhep.net. Other services need to be designed, harmonising the requests and contributions of all stakeholders. All services leverage existing activities for data citation and attribution (DataCite, ORCID, CreativeCommons licenses), need to interoperate with other relevant initiatives (arXiv, figshare, GitHub, HEPData, Zenodo and systems by scientific publishers) and support the scientific community to address Open Science policies of CERN Member States.
The Data Curation Service Manager will
* Operate CERN data curation services: oversee the ingestion of data in the appropriate platform at CERN or elsewhere; liaise closely with the user community and the relevant services at CERN to assure that appropriate information is either captured or promptly generated in order to make data discoverable, attributable and citable, both immediately and in the long-term future; implement emerging standards across the data curation workflow at CERN, including licensing and Open Access aspects when requested.
* Integrate and harmonize data curation services for the High-Energy Physics community across services operated at CERN (e.g. across experimental collaborations, INSPIRE, the Open Data portal, the future Analysis Preservation Framework) and beyond (e.g. third-party repositories both community operated and commercial ventures, publishing companies, initiatives in the Member States), seeking synergies and avoiding duplication of effort, while assuring wide discoverability and resilient linkage of data and optimizing solutions at the service of the High-Energy Physics community.
* Convene all stakeholders in the High-Energy Physics community (large and medium-sized collaborations as well as across the theory community and neighboring disciplines) and other relevant services at CERN to continuously monitor, improve and harmonize data ingestion and curation workflows. Explore existing and evolving needs of the community for the expansion and scalability of data curation services and propose effective and economic multi-lateral solutions for their implementation.
* Liaise with external initiatives, at the European and Global level, to integrate emerging best practices within all CERN data curation services. Support the High-Energy Physics community in addressing emerging requirements of funding agencies. Explore opportunities for external funding of R&D projects to expand interoperability of CERN and external relevant systems.
CERN Staff is hired from its Member States [http://jobs.web.cern.ch/content/member-states], and this position is for a 5-years appointment. Salary is commensurate with seniority. Entry-level remuneration for this job category is in the range of 96’000-109’000 CHF/year, net of taxes. More information on benefits is available at http://cds.cern.ch/record/1664325/files/Employment_Conditions_EN.pdf
Closing date January 11th, 2015.
