European Centre for Environment and Human Health (Truro, Cornwall)
University of Exeter Medical School
The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to support the work of Dr Cassandra Phoenix. This post is funded by the Meniere's Society and is available from the 1st November 2014 for 10 months on a part time basis (80% FTE). The successful applicant will work with the team investigating the mental health and wellbeing impacts of Meniere's disease utilising a range of qualitative methods.
The post holder will use a range of qualitative research techniques (e.g. in-depth interviewing and visual methods) with Meniere's patients and their significant others to help understand how Meniere's disease impacts in everyday life. The successful applicant will be able to utilise multiple forms of analyses to identify key findings from the data and communicate these findings effectively through various means (e.g. oral, written, visual). They will produce manuscripts for publication and further funding proposals to extend this area of research.
The qualitative aspect of this project will be complemented by large scale data analysis, providing a population level understanding of the mental health issues associated with Meniere's disease. The applicant should, therefore have some knowledge of quantitative data analysis techniques and an interest in multidisciplinary research, which draws on qualitative and quantitative modes of inquiry. Our team also has a mobile phone application (Meniere's Monitor) monitoring the symptoms of Meniere's on a daily basis. There will be significant cross over between these projects and the successful applicant will be expected to interact with this research project and engage with the business partner for Meniere's Monitor.
