I gave a paper at an IOSH conference last year on the aging workforce. The
thrust of my paper was exactly this - the aging process is associated with
some health problems (eg menopause, prostate problems, type 2 diabetes,
arthritic changes etc. However, older workers are not likely to have more
accidents than those of less advanced years. In fact, the group which are
most likely to have accidents are at the opposite end of the age spectrum ie
young and thus inexperienced workers, and often it is associated with risk
taking behaviour compounded by poor supervision.
