> We have recently heard that the HLF Collecting Cultures bid that the FED is a joint partner in, has been successful with an award of £349K over 5 years.
>
> Saving Treasures, Telling Stories will
> create a long-term collecting culture relating to the portable archaeological heritage of Wales. This will underpin responsible discovery and reporting,
> while also enabling accredited museums to secure many important finds for public benefit.
>
> The project is a collaboration between Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales, the FED, and the Portable Antiquities Scheme in Wales.
>
> There is scope for wide involvement in acquisition and training/collecting/networking days and in a limited amount of Community Projects.
>
> The project will secure for both national and local museums in Wales, a significant proportion of the predicted 100-120 or so items and groups to be discovered and declared legally to be treasure over a four year period from 2015-19. It is envisaged that the funding made available for acquisitions through this project would be distributed on the general understanding of 'equal share' between national and local museums.
>
> The project will offer a range of training and skill-sharing workshops, presentations, resources and activities to local museum staff, heritage professionals, volunteers and metal-detectorists.
>
> It will also deliver a three-year programme of community projects. Local and national museum staff will work in a participative way with selected community groups and target audiences. Projects will develop creative responses, historical interests and co-presented outcomes in relation to significant discoveries in their neighbourhoods and acquired by museums through the programme.
>
> We will provide further information to raise awareness about the project and advertising calls for involvement in 2015, initially to benefit through acquisitions and then planning towards community project funding.
