Hello Alan
The RSC Northwest are running a Digital Literacy Forum on the 5th November that investigates what makes a digitally fluent learner. An element of that will be the ability to find evaluate and apply information.
As part of the session we will be looking at existing resources and identifying appropriate activities to share with your own learners (examples will be provided). You will have an opportunity working in groups to formulate a session plan with key aims and objectives - http://jiscevents.force.com/E/EventsDetailPage?id=a06U000000Jwyv3IAB&srvc=JISC%20RSC%20North%20West
Jorum have launched a library for Information & Digital Literacy Skills http://www.jorum.ac.uk/blog/post/77/il-launch that would be a good starting point. (although at the time of writing there seems to be a fault with the web site)
It would also be worthwhile having a look at Merlot
Merlot - http://www.merlot.org/ - free and open peer reviewed collection of online teaching and learning materials and faculty-developed services contributed and used by an international education community
· Merlot Information Literacy contains around 200 resources to support information and study skills sessions - http://www.merlot.org/merlot/materials.htm?category=2271
Merlot Information Literacy leads to hundreds more ideas and lesson plans for student based activities.
I have also put together a page with a bit more information on Open Educational Resources (OERs) – https://docs.google.com/document/d/19PcxmQEdUDTIrLsnNTXvXAzebbGdRdGvgV9aRk3EF-w/edit?usp=sharing
Jisc: A guide to open educational resources - http://www.jisc.ac.uk/publications/programmerelated/2013/Openeducationalresources.aspx
For a workshop to start students thinking for themselves about evaluating sources there is some material on the Jisc RSC Moodle web site, including session plans and handouts - Think before you click web evaluation workshop - http://moodle.rsc-northwest.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=3#section-4 . You can access as a guest without a password.
I will contact you off list if you would like further information
With kind regards
Anthony
