Hi Martin
We think Coventry will stump up the contribution to CLARIN. Can you invoice us for the amount when the time comes? Best to send it to Billy, copied into this message.
Thanks
Hilary

Subject: Forming CLARIN-UK
I would like to briefly report on the outcomes of a positive and constructive meeting in Sheffield last week. More information will follow in the coming weeks as we deal with the action points.
Representatives from the Universities of Coventry, Glasgow, Lancaster, Leeds, Oxford and Sheffield met on 4 September 2014 to discuss measures to build better infrastructure and support for sharing and sustaining digital language resources and tools, and, more specifically, to explore the possibilities for UK universities to get more deeply involved in the CLARIN research infrastructure. We resolved to take forward the following steps:
- set up a website at http://www.clarin.ac.uk/ to showcase our resources, research and services (this will build on the initial content posted at http://ota.ox.ac.uk/clarin-uk/);
- form a CLARIN-UK association of language resource providers;
- investigate the steps necessary for this association to join the CLARIN European Research Infrastructure Consortium;
- share information among association members about participation in
Horizon2020 and other funding schemes;
- organize a technical workshop, with attendees from European CLARIN initiatives, for us to learn how to integrate corpora, tools and other resources to the CLARIN infrastructure;
The first steps aim to build the CLARIN-UK association and to ensure that the UK joins CLARIN as an observer. To achieve this, the members of CLARIN-UK would demonstrate their commitment by paying the €12,000pa fee by subscription among themselves, while lobbying for UK funders to embark on full membership of CLARIN. We hope this this would be a worthwhile investment, not only in the long-term to build infrastructure for sharing and sustaining resources, but also in the short term for opening possibilities for Horizon2020 funding.
What do you need to do?
- Let me know if you think that your department / centre / organization might be a potential member of the proposed CLARIN-UK association, and able to contribute financially an annual fee in the region of £1000 to £2000;
- Contribute to the discussion on this email list if you have any questions, suggestions, comments or other points that you would like to make;
- Pass this message on and encourage others to join the email list.
Best wishes,
Martin
