Hi Don,
We have done similar events in the past - great fun! We have had chocolate covered ants, curry flavoured crickets, and a chef come in to do cricket stir frys!
A few things:
- People loved it (mixed reactions to trying it, but 99% of people did try the edible insects!)
- The insects which are brought online are from farmed sources (so obviously similar to farming cattle).
- The curry flavour crickets were nicer than the stir fried crickets - they were crunchy. The stir fry crickets were quite soggy, so ending up being a bit too chewy for me.
- Crickets and ants have legs. Provide a jug with water to swill round after eating. I have seen several happy members of the public with cricket and ant legs between their teeth.

Subject: Entomophagy
Hello all
We are having an insect themed Super Saturday at the end of this month and I would like to offer visitors the chance to sample some tasty insects.
Two reasons - pulls in visitors, but also to promote the idea of entomophagy.
Many people may have seen the article in the last edition of Antenna that talked about a concerted effort to introduce the eating of insects.
There are various important reasons to do this eg. inefficient conversion of feedstock to animal protein, land usage.
Has anyone had such an event and could you tell me how it went if poss?
Cheers
Don
