I echo Pierre's good words. I knew Heather for nearly forty years as a good friend, colleague and wonderful scholar. I was delighted when after very successfully building up research in her School at Bolton she joined us at Northumbria as a Head of School where she was also a great leader and a model of how to deal intelligently and imaginatively with the central bureaucracy as well as with her team who adored her. She was a strong scholar and also a very funny person with an infectious giggle. She was a great supporter of our little, new School at UCS with always lots of time for students. A real star and as Pierre says, a role model.

She made such a difference to SCOS, but indeed, to the lives of everyone she touched. She was a brilliant thinker, a warm and generous colleague, an unforgettable teacher, and an irreplaceable friend. We are dreadfully diminished by her loss.
