The Late Lamented Google Blog Search: But Not Yet Late So Not Yet Lamented

For some time I had been noticing that in recent weeks that the Google
Blog link in the Google Options page or the Google Products page had
become a 404 error page, meaning the page no longer existed. Since I have
many links to Google Blog searches on the web, this had me quite
exercised.

The link now takes the user to the Google Web Search page instead.
I found links to Google Blog searches and they worked.
This link was created just before this happened and it not only works fine
but the content is up to date.

Somebody on the LawLib discussion group noted in a post that Google
Alerts, I think it was are no longer what they were and may be on the way
out. I respoonded with what I knew about Google Blog Search and got a
surprise response.
It seems there is a way to force by a specific URL to get Google to
provide the Google Blog search interface. I had been using my archived
links and clearing and typing in a new search from the links I have in my
Net-Gold list to prior Google Blog searches.

It is, however, possible to force Google to display the Blogsearch
interface and search the Blogsearch database by manually adding the
application for the Blogsearch to your the URL in your browser's address
bar (or omnibox) - like this

tbm instructs the the browser to retrieve a specific application from the
Google server and blg is the designation for the Blogsearch. A complete

Now this content does not rival that in the British Journal of Sports
Medicine, but it will help one find bits and pieces in any field that
would be very difficult to otherwise learn and some of the content is very
important. This set of material is substantially different in that there
is far more content, than the Google News limit to Blog News sources.
Google News, furthermore, provides only the latest month of content.

The search tool here also gives far less of a search than the Google Blog
search discussed above.
Google has now hidden Google Blog search and over time eliminated Google
Reader, Google Uncle Sam, an invaluable Government search tool and also
eliminated Google News Arhcive except for a very limited and well hidden
version of the news archive that contains only the ocntent that Google
actually digitized. Google in the past has claimed they want to be the
world's library, but in this kind of Google du Jour world, this is not a
library one can count on or take seriously as a permanent resource. It
would seem that driverless cars have become far more sexy to Google than
providing ongoing access to quality search tools.
