My client based in Avon, has a vacancy for an experienced GIS Technical Architect to join a team catering to the needs of a variety of defence, public and private sector organisations. The role will involve all aspects of the sales and delivery processes including pre-sales support and customer presentations; BID preparation; business requirements analysis; technical solution design; creation of prototypes and proof of concepts and the development of GIS software applications.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in GIS application software development together with extensive knowledge of database technologies and technical architectures combined with an excellent knowledge of GIS with particular expertise in the ESRI technology stack and other GIS packages including Open Source.
The role requires:
Working with customers to realise their GIS needs i.e. business and requirements analysis, scope etc.
Advising clients on the architecture and use of GIS as well as delivering on their strategies and designs within a delivery team
Pre-sales support, presentations to customers and input into GIS related bids
Development of proof of concept and demonstrator systems as well as development of GIS software applications
Design of GIS systems and act as Design Authority for GIS projects
Advise on integration of GIS components into mainstream IT systems
Planning of timescales and resources
Preparation of documentation and other artefacts
Essential skills:
•Good degree in Computer Science or equivalent with extensive experience of GIS software
•Experience of pre-sales support
•Experience of the software development lifecycle
•Experience of ESRI 10.x software suite
•Knowledge of Open Source GIS e.g. OpenLayers, GeoNetwork, GeoServer, PostGIS & PostgreSQL, GeoExt, JQuery
•Experience of working with UK mapping data e.g. Ordnance Survey MasterMap etc.
•Knowledge of UK, European & Worldwide GIS standards (e.g. OGC, INSPIRE, ISO 19115, ISO 19119).
•Experience of working in large enterprise GIS solution projects
•Experience of handling complex data
•Good commercial awareness
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desirable skills:
Postgraduate qualification in GIS or relevant industry experience
Experience of MapInfo software (MapInfo, MapXtreme etc.)
Knowledge of Safe Software – FME Desktop, FME Server / Spatial Direct.
Experience of software engineering methodologies (e.g. RUP, RAD), practises & UML (e.g. Use Cases, Class Diagrams).
Any other information e.g. dual location, special security clearance, foreign languages:

•Must either have SC clearance already or be able to obtain it immediately
My client offers a comprehensive range of benefits including pension, life assurance and private health cover.
Salary for this senior position would be in the region of £50-55K.
