The European Food Information Council (EUFIC) is looking for an EU Projects Communications Intern for 6 to 12 months.

Start date: From Monday 27th October 2014

Organisation Description:

The European Food Information Council, EUFIC, is a non-profit organisation that provides science-based information on food and food-related topics to disseminators such as the media, health and nutrition professionals, educators and opinion leaders in a way that promotes consumer understanding. EUFIC receives funding from the European Commission on a project basis, European companies in the food and drink industries, foundations and other sources.

EUFIC is a multicultural workplace in the heart of Brussels. We are a dynamic group, passionate about what we do for the benefit of consumers. EUFIC is housed in the pleasant office environment of Tassel House, the first Art Nouveau house in Belgium, and a UNESCO World Heritage site in the trendy Chatelain/Avenue Louise area of Brussels, only 25 minutes’ walk from the Grand Place.

Role Summary:

Assisting the EU Projects Communications Manager in delivering EUFIC commitments to EU-funded projects, particularly with communication activities, and dealing with progress reports, financial and administrative aspects of the projects.

Job Description:

Perform communication activities related to EU projects by ensuring all assigned tasks are met.

Tasks include:

    Preparation of communication material (drafting and writing articles, website copy, brochures, leaflets, press releases, other text-based 
    communication and recording podcasts).
    Updating EU project websites (editing, adding and creating content through content management systems).
    Media activities - media relations work (promotion with media representatives and liaising with partner departments) and managing media 
    monitoring reports.
    Social media activities (researching and frequently posting news and information).
    Performing desk research on stakeholders and collecting stakeholder contacts. 

Financial and administrative activities related to EU projects that the assistant will also be involved in:

    Financial management and reporting.
    Progress reporting.
    Organisation and attendance of meetings and conferences.
    Database and file management.

Required education, experience and skills:

    A B.A. or B.Sc. degree in an appropriate science or science communication subject (preferably a M.Sc. in science communication) followed by 
    communication, PR or journalism work experience.
    Excellent attention to detail and speed in executing tasks.
    Mature work manner, attitude and awareness of deadlines, especially during pressurised periods of work.
    Knowledge and experience of using social media platforms and tools.
    Strong experience of writing news articles and press releases quickly and to deadline.
    Able to translate scientific information into accurate and easy to understand communication material.
    Good networking and people skills.
    Creative, highly motivated self-starter and takes ownership of work.
    Enthusiastic to work in a growing and dynamic organisation of about 19 people.
    Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    Experience with image/audio/video editing software is an advantage.
    Communications experience within EU projects is an advantage.
    Excellent English, both speaking and writing skills. Additional European languages are an advantage.
