Research Assistant: Developing Open Data Tools for the Crowd
We are seeking a Research Assistant to support the CrowdData project, a collaboration between researchers at the University of Aberdeen and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay). The project is investigating tools to help communities to create and maintain open data sets in India, using crowd-sourcing techniques. It will also explore how information about the sources of such data and the processes involved in its production can be captured. Given the potential scale of data in India, we are focussing on the (highly transferable) transport domain, with a specific focus on the datasets necessary to support a real-time passenger information system for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay campus bus service.
You should have a good Honours degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; an MSc in Web technologies or similar would also be desirable. You are expected to be a highly competent programmer in Java, and to have knowledge of Web development (JavaScript, JSP, and PHP). Experience of semantic web and/or linked data technologies is desirable. Enthusiasm for digital technology and innovation relevant to society and the economy is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a cross-disciplinary international team.
Informal enquiries about the post and the project can be made to Dr David Corsar ([log in to unmask]).
