Dear members...Wanted some advise please. Is an OH practitioner holding SCPHN qualification enough to sign off a student doing SCPHN course in an OH setting ? Or is it must to have the practice teacher qualification for the purpose stated above? The NMC has set its standards for the SCPHN course for the need to have a practice teacher to sign off a student but in reality, there are a very limited number of practice teachers around in an OH setting, both in NHS as well as in private sector. I have enquired from my local area in Stafford and its surroundings, no success. I am continuing to try on this. I am going to be a student on this course (SCPHN-OH) from September 2014 onwards at Chester university. Am struggling to find a practice teacher in my area... Staffordshire (would be ideal if can find a PT near my locality but am happy to travel far if needed as I do have to travel to Chester from Stafford to attend uni 2 days a week). Have contacted my university (Chester) and they are abiding by the NMC standards but was advised that they will also see how they can support me with this. However was advised by the uni that it is student's responsibility to find a placement. Still waiting for answers from the university. I also wanted to put in my efforts as well, hence asking for help/advise from the wider OH community at the JISCmail. I have a mentor who is happy to support me in practice (will need to travel to Birmingham for my practice OH placement on voluntary basis as I am entering the OH setting as a novice) but need a practice teacher who can sign me off at the end of my SCPHN course (full time over 1 year). I had been advised by others that the mentor can support me in OH practice and a practice teacher can sign me off in liaison with my mentor for the competencies. Can this Practice teacher be from another discipline? Can the practice teacher offer support by meeting me and my mentor at regular intervals or by other means of communications as per the arrangements? Hoping for some answers. Can anyone offer any help or advise please??? Thanks in advance. Regards.
