Hi Stephen,
We have played with a demo briefly, but not used in earnest. Sounds interesting what you are doing
My immediate advice to anyone else would be to make sure people are considering the new version, currently in developer release only.

Facebook have just completed their mega-buyout of Oculus and they are indicating that they don't expect to make money off the hardware, but either content, services or monetising the data it provides. The upshot is the hardware is going to be the cheap loss leader (like it is with Amazon Kindles), so it may be easy to get them for less money, quite soon (Christmas this year I have heard rumoured)
Hats off to Facebook for taking an exploratory approach to VR - they admit they don't know how it will disrupt everything. They just believe it will enough to invest massively and want to get in there and do some beta services and prototypes.
Of course this might get creepy if the sensors can provide facial behaviour data - what do we think if they know what people like and their facial expression and eye-tracking???) yikes

Subject: Oculus Rift in public spaces
Hi all,
My research involves the use of Virtual Reality to document Intangible Cultural Heritage.
As part of this, a VR environment will be shown on the Oculus Rift (DK1) at Bristol's MShed, later this year. This will form part of an exhibition which will run for 5 months (the VR won't run constantly, only at periodic 'show times').
I'd be very interested to hear (on or off list) from anyone who has actually used the Rift in earnest as part of a public exhibition or event.
I'm particularly interested in the logistics e.g. Has anyone beefed up the hardware for extended public display? How ready/reluctant is the public to engage with such unfamiliar technology?
Many thanks in advance.

I notice all the replies have been from those using iPads. Does anyone have any experience or views on iOS versus Android tablets? Has anyone had any battery issues with either?
