Hi Fabio,
This sounds like a fantastic project and I wish you all the best with it.
I wonder if it is worth seeking the work of Charlie Howard (nee Alcock) CEO of MAC UK regarding her work with youths. http://www.mac-uk.org/dr-charlie-alcocka-presentation/ This is a link to one of the many presentations Charlie has given on alternative ways of engaging with younger generations. Her work is very inspiring and informative, and challenges the way in which we engage with communities.
Also, I am firm believer that there is something to be said utilising the knowledge and expertise from communities themselves. I wonder if it may be useful to engage with the youths you will be working with and explore their strengths and perhaps identified needs, and build around these to find a way to move forward and build relationships. A colleague of mine who has been involved in a youth wellbeing project within schools recently has been running informal focus groups to explore the youths perceptions of what wellbeing is to them and what helps them to maintain it. These were very successful at enhancing engagement and working within their frame of reference whilst empowering them to shape the services that they receieved.
I have forwarded this email to this colleague to see if she has any further advice. I hope that this is useful.
Best Wishes

Subject: empowering young adults in residential care homes
Dear all,
I am in the early stages of developing a project for young adults living in residential care homes in Lincolnshire. The population is not one of special needs or with mental health issues (although I’ll need to check that out..).
This is a pilot intervention to develop a self-empowerment model I am ‘importing’ from Italy and which is based on developing participants’ self-efficacy, internal locus of control, hopefulness and positive thinking.
I have never had chance to deal with this specific population and I will surely try to get to spend some time with these youths at some point, in order to have a better understanding of the situation and before getting this project started.
I was wondering whether you have any specific suggestions (in terms of readings or from experience) regarding how to get young adults which are lacking motivation and interest, to engage in further activities?
(from my side, I’d like to adopt an action-research approach where I and the youth work toward the definition of the project and its delivery.. which is not possible at the moment..)
Thank you very much in any case.
all the best,
Fabio
