The Pharmacogenetics and Stratified Medicine Network is a research network whose main aim is to foster collaborations between academia, healthcare and industry partners, bio-informatics and diagnostic services, with the purpose of catalysing research into stratified medicine. The Network is chaired by Professor Munir Pirmohamed, NHS chair of Pharmacogenetics, and we are working closely with the Technology Strategy Board, through the Knowledge Transfer Network.
Our next event is a workshop on 23rd October at the London campus of UoL, Finsbury Park, entitled “Defining Drug Response for Stratified Medicine”.
The format of the workshop is to invite thirty delegates from across academia, healthcare professions and industry to offer their expert knowledge to debate:-
• How to assess variability in clinical studies
• How to define drug response in terms of efficacy
• How to define drug response in terms of safety
The workshop will begin with three speakers, namely Professors Ewan Pearson, Stephen Senn and Munir Pirmohamed, to introduce the topics. The delegates will then split into three groups of ten, plus a rapporteur, to discuss the topics with the aim of producing a position paper. This paper would help develop a consensus on how to define the drug response of patients for stratified medicine.
