Dear CRUMB list,
I'm excited to announce that I'm curating a digital art auction coming up
at Phillips in London on July 3rd. Artists and galleries receive 100% of
the sale proceeds and a portion of the buyer's premium will be donated
to Opening
Times <http://otdac.org/>, a new online commissioning platform for digital
art. The works are viewable here
<http://www.phillips.com/auctions/auction/PD010114> and will be featured in
a two-week exhibition at Phillips's HQ in London from June 21-July 2.
In anticipation of the sale, we're co-organizing a couple of discussions
with Arcadia Missa focused on the monetization of digital works. I hope
you'll be able to join us, otherwise we'll be livestreaming the
conversations and encourage you to take part by sending questions in
advance or using the #PaddlesON hashtag on Tumblr or Twitter. It would be
wonderful to have your input in these discussions.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the auction or
discussion series - I'm happy to discuss further on or off thread.
Best,
Lindsay
*YOU’RE INVITED*
* Phillips <http://phillips.com/>* and *Arcadia Missa
<http://www.arcadiamissa.com/> *invite you to join us
for a special discussion series focused on what it means to
create, sell and collect digital art in the 21st century.
Part panel and part think tank, these conversations will explore digital
art's position in the contemporary art marketplace and experimental
monetization and distribution models as extensions of the artist's creative
practice. The format is designed to produce a lively dialogue between our
invited guest speakers and the audience. Attendees should come prepared to
engage in these topics, discuss practical examples, and suggest hypotheses
for the future.
*Patronage After the Internet*
*Monday, 23 June 2014 7pm - 8:30pm *Phillips, 7 Howick Place, London

The first discussion is devoted to consideration of the way collectors,
galleries, curators and institutions can best support contemporary artists
in an increasingly decentralized ecosystem. We will look at alternative
forms of patronage that have emerged in the past decade, as well as the
ways in which the Internet provides new ways to access art.
*Guest Speakers:*
Attilia Fattori Franchini (Independent Curator)
Oliver Robb (Collector and Art Advisor)
Megan Newcome (Paddles ON! Head of Sale)
Quayola (Artist)

*Digital Art and Economies of Scale*
*Tuesday, 24 June 2014 7pm - 8:30pm *Phillips, 7 Howick Place, London
<[log in to unmask],-0.137184,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x933ec07ac6aa066e?hl=en" target="_blank">https:[log in to unmask],-0.137184,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x933ec07ac6aa066e?hl=en>
The second discussion is focused on the digital object and strategies that
artists are employing to creatively monetize immaterial, often
multi-platform, work. We will explore how traditional art world modes of
exchange, including artificial scarcity, are challenged by the emergence of
global networks.
*Guest Speakers:*
Louise Shannon (Digital Curator, V&A)
Gerardo Contreras (Director, Preteen Gallery)
Lindsay Howard (Paddles ON! Curator)
Evan Roth (Artist)

discussion groups. The conversations are free but space is limited and RSVP
is required. The events will be livestreamed and online audiences can
participate on Tumblr and Twitter using *#PaddlesON*. The discussions are
free but space is limited so RSVP is required.
These discussions are part of a series of public programs that coincide
with *Paddles ON! <http://paddleson.tumblr.com/>*, an exhibition and
auction that celebrates artists who are using digital technologies to
establish the next generation of contemporary art. The exhibition will be
on view before and after the discussions, and the *live auction
