i have often considered writing an API on top of the emails I get from
Lambeth Freecycle to filter stuff that I'm interested in.
What about trying a system of structured messages, embedding
keywords/strings in the messages that could be used by an API to build a
search engine of some sort, perhaps feed the emails into a Solr index
and build a small front-end for it. You never know, Freecycle might
actually take an interest in structured messaging to allow for
filtering. If none of that works satisfactorily at least there will be
some trial data to hammer out further requirements.
Just ideas of the top of my head. Love the whole concept though!
