Hello All,
Following on from my request on Google Docs handling of metadata, has anyone any recommendations for a DAM that excels as both a document AND image DAM? (note: excels at both, not it's great at ODF and Word document version control and but if you upload a CYMK TIFF with adjustment layers it will convert it into an sRGB JPEG 'on the fly' for your 'convenience')
Oh, and it must be cloud based and have API capabilities...
There isn't time for me to go into our requirements in any great detail here so I just need some initial suggestions that I could investigate further.
Thanks and regards

Subject: Re: [MCG] Google Docs and metadata
This from David Riecks: David Riecks <[log in to unmask]> He is happy to speak separately to you Tony if it helps.
His response:
"Google Docs (now generally referred to as Google Drive), doesn't have a specific image component.
If the question is, do images or graphics placed into a Google Drive application: Docs, Presentation, Spreadsheet, Form, or Drawing, which have embedded metadata retain their metadata -- either inside the application, or when later removed -- then I think that the answer is the same as for Microsoft's line of products; which is a big fat NO.
There is no menu item for viewing the metadata of a placed/inserted image file within Google Docs (and I would assume the same for the other applications). If any image metadata is retained, there is no way to verify.... in fact if you try to select and copy out an image, you get the error "can't paste image from clipboard" when you attempt to paste it into another application.
This is the same situation with Microsoft, except you can "extract" images --- however they are devoid of any image metadata and in fact have been processed (when ingested) and appear to be converted to an MS internal format. "
All best
Sarah
