We used to have Library log ins that we could allocate to specific individuals for a defined period of time (eg 1 month on placement) and ask IT to reset the password when their time was up. However, IT decided that this was a security risk and that the Broadband network they had installed was an adequate replacement. Unfortunately, this means that Library staff often have to access the Intranet to download Policies and guidelines that are only accessible from within the Trust network
Students etc have unrestricted access to the Internet & Microsoft Office from our 3 Broadband-connected PCs. They can also access the Internet on their own laptops via cables sticking out of the wall.

Apologies for cross posting
For many years in our Trust we have managed temporary logins for Students to allow them access to the Internet and MS Office etc. We are now struggling to continue with this as IT are rationing how many 'non assigned' logins we are allowed. We wonder how other NHS Trusts manage this issue? Does the library deal with this at all? Is it a matter for IT? Do you have 'non-assigned' logins too? How do your students logon and what can they access?
Many thanks
Kate
