Hi there all,
FYI - some exciting developments that deserve support:
The Earthworker Cooperative, a community-led initiative to support a transition from fossil fuels to diverse alternatives in Victoria's coal-dominated Latrobe Valley, is at an exciting and critical point. They intent to establish worker-cooperatives to manufacture renewable technology in coal & old industrial regions.
Through unique partnerships between small local manufacturers, trade unions, environmental orgs, faith groups & others, Earthworker is now producing solar hot water systems, and is edging closer to starting it's first worker-owned factory to manufacture solar hot water systems in Morwell, Latrobe Valley.
The cooperative is running a big (urgent) crowdfunding campaign to facilitate it cooperatising an industry partner factory in Dandenong, outer Melbourne - www.startsomegood.com/earthworker .
I'd urge people to have a look, and to consider supporting the project. There's more information on their website: www.earthworkercooperative.com.au
This is exciting news that's especially relevant to geographers of transition, climate change, diverse economies, and economic geographers everywhere!
Earthworker will be a point of discussion at the "Low-carbon transitions, grassroots renewable energy and action research" session at the upcoming IAG conference in Melbourne.
Cheers,
Dan Musil
